I did not paddle this close to a nesting loon on purpose. I came around a sharp bend, and there she was. My camera was already up, and the paddles were already down, so I just let the breezes push me by her nest without making any sudden moves and without alarming her. Unfortunately, her nest was destroyed during a storm when a dock broke loose on the lake, and washed over her nest in the high winds. Maybe next year......
