Rainbow Lorikeet

Trichoglossus haematodus – that’s a mouthful of Latin for this beautiful Rainbow Lorikeet. Originally from the rain forests of Australia, these colorful birds are a popular attraction at the San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park. In Lorikeet Landing, a special aviary in the park, you can hand-feed them nectar from small cups that can be purchased for a nominal fee.

I cheated a bit on this photo. The original background was horrible, so I went into PS and used a picture I had of the ancient dam on the San Diego River in Mission Trails Regional Park near San Diego as it's background. Much prettier than the awful blur that the original was.
