Drinking in the Spring

London, UK

This was a lucky shot, since it's the only bufferfly I've seen this spring, and I've even been to this spot a few times lately. Unfortunately, I had my wide-angle 15-30 lens on at the time, which isn't too good for macro photography - this is a 100% crop. The butterfly left shortly afterwards. This park is near where I live and I often use the area for practice. It's also near the River Thames (the line of trees in the background is the river bank) which makes for good water shots in the day, and good sunset shots in the evening.

Nice head on shot of overwintered Red Admiral nectaring on flowering current (Ribes fruticosa). The date of emergence from dormancy is interesting as it is very early in the season.
