Biddeford Mills

Biddeford, Maine

Settled in the 1600s, the city was named after Lord Biddeford of England. The Mills were built in the 1800s and produced flour, textiles and leather. The Saco River was diverted to run through the basements of the mills to provide water power to drive the early machines in the mills. Most of the thousands of square feet of space are occupied by small businesses today. The temperature was 5 degrees fahrenheit.
