Into the volcano

Just outside Reykjavík there is an old volcano which you can go into and explore. This is a volcano not unlike the one that is now (2014) erupting in the middle of Iceland. The reason that you can go into it is that the lava that flowed in it for some reason suddenly retracted and left the volcano empty on the inside.
I was invited to join my friend who got the trip into the volcano for his 60th birthday from his son. And it was a trip well worth going and I´m greatful for the oppertunity to go along.
The first picture shows an information poster at the volcano explaining how it was made and when and also shows a drawing of the inside of the volcano and to show how big it is then the Statue of Liberty has been drawn beside it and as can be seen then more then two of them would fit inside the volcano.
We stayed all in all about one and a half hour down in the volcano and it´s such an unbelievable place that we could have spent more time down there. We were fortunat that we went into the volcano in a dead period during the day so that no new visitors arrived while we were there.
