Surpricingly a lot of icelanders have not seen this waterfall, as it is only about 500 meters from the mainroad leading around Iceland (mainroad 1) and it very accessable.
Just around the bend in the river in this photo is the bridge where the mainroad goes over the river.
Landsvirkjun which is the national electricity powercompany has plans to make a dam just above where the waterfall is today, which will lead to this waterfall disappearing.
At the moment nobody knows if or when that will occur.
