A ship carved in rock, at the acropolis in Lindos

Lindos, Rhodes, Greece

On the platform before you come to the steps that lead up into the fortifications surrounding the acropolis at Lindos, you can see on the left side, on a rock, a carved semi-circular dais and the stern of a ship.
On the broader part of the ship there is a base on which stood, according to the inscription, a statue of the admiral Agesander. This was a work of the second century BC, attributed to Pythocritus, the creator of the famous Victory of Samothrce.
