Here the river Hvítá has cut it´s way through soft rock and formed some interesting rockformations. This is about 13 km. drive down river from the waterfall Gullfoss but here the river looks a lot smaller which means that it´s a lot deeper because here at least the same amount of water flowes as is in the waterfall. The dept of the river and the current of it can be seen by the fact that about 2-3 years ago a jeep with two men fell into the river from the bridge which is about 500 meters up river from where this pictuer was taken. One of the men (if I rember correctly) managed to escape from the jeep and get to land but neighter the body of the second man nor the jeep have ever been found.
