Lets look at how a geyser will blow the water up. In this picture you can see the very beginging. The waterlevel of the hole is higher then the waterlevel in the surroundings. This indicates that the geyser is ready to blow. But this can happen a couple of times and then the waterlevel will go down again before it blows.
