1st Tie 12/16/08

Waiting on pins and needles for the last week or so. Due date is 2/17/09. It is the home stretch, but so much can go wrong so still praying for a successful delivery and healthy babies.

2/17/09 1:40 a.m. Rio has blessed us with a beautiful Black & White boy, 9 3/8 oz.....more to come.

2/17/09 4:30 a.m. Rio has blessed us with a beautiful Black & White girl, 9 1/8 oz...pretty sure that is all of them.

2/18/09 Puppies had their first vet visit today to have dew claws removed. All only had front dew claws. Vet checked them over and their pallets looked good, hearts sounded good, too. All are fat and healthy with no apparent signs of any concerns. Mom got checked over too and all looks good with her as well. She is eating good and taking very good care of the little ones.

3/12/09 My best guess on eye color at this time is:

Fremont - Right eye - Parti, mostly blue / Left eye - Parti, mostly brown
Paris - Right eye - Parti, mostly blue / Left eye - Brown
Hollywood - Both eyes are brown.

Since numbers seeem so impersonal, I thought temporary names might be nice for the babies. So, until a decision is made as to what their permanent names will be:

Puppy #1, Boy, will be called Fremont
Puppy #2, Girl, will be called Hollywood
Puppy #3, Girl, will be called Paris

3/23/09 The babies are still growing. Just weighed them:

Hollywood - 4 lbs.

3/27/09 The babies went to the vet today for their first series shots and checkup. Fecals were normal, teeth, hearts, knees, hips etc. were all good. No hernias and no tail kinks. I can still feel Fremont's jewels. Although fecal was normal, babies will receive a second deworming this weekend at vet's recommendation just to be safe.
Paris - 3.2 lbs. on vet's scale
Fremont - 3.8 lbs. on vet's scale
Hollywood - 4.1 lbs. on vet's scale

3/30/09 - Puppies and Rio received their second deworming today. Although fecal was normal, vet said it would be a good idea.

6/13/09 - UAKKA Specialty at Premier - Paris wins best Female puppy and Best Puppy in Non Licensed Class in her very first show. She edged out her litter mate, Harlee, who won Best male puppy in the same show. Harlee won Best Puppy at his first show a few weeks ago also. Way to go Paris and Harlee!


All puppies have been DNA tested for FVII, Red Factor and Coat length. Swabs were mailed 3/9/09 so we should have results in a couple of weeks. Because both parents have tested as FVII normal, it is anticipated puppies should all be FVII normal. At this time, I anticipate the male puppy will be available. Decisions on placement will not be made until breeding potential can be better evaluated between 6-8 weeks of age. 3/17/09 - Received the coat length test results from VetGen today. All three puppies are SS which means they do not carry the gene for long coat.
3/18/09 - Received the FVII Deficiency Test results from VetGen today. All three puppies are normal/clear just as expected.
3/19/09 - Received the Red Factor Test results from VetGen today. All three puppies carry the red color gene. BbEE

Bear is my very sweet, goofy little boy. Well, he isn't so little anymore, he is a Standard size Alaskan Klee Kai. He was born August 25, 2007. His dad is Blue and his mom is Smokey. At the show in Denton, TX, on April 19, 2008, he earned his Champion title. Thank you Heart of Texas for this wonderful little guy. Bear does carry the red color gene courtesy of Blue. He is FVII normal by DNA testing. At the age of 14 months, Bear earned his Grand Champion. I am so proud of this handsome boy. He has the most awesome, outgoing temperament and even gives the judges kisses. He has passed all his first round of health testing with flying colors. At 12 months old his OFA Cardiac, Patella, and Thyroid tests were all normal as was his CERF eye test. In addition to his OFA & CERF tests, Bear tested normal for liver function on his Bile Acid test and negative for Brucellosis. Rio is my beautiful little girl from Naitok Kennels in Bakersfield, CA. She was born 1/2/07. Her mother is Lakina and her father is Trigger. She is such a gentle, sweet little girl. She has a wonderful disposition and appears to be a natural in the show ring. She did receive her Champion Title but has since been retired from showing due to an injury which caused a partial tear of her ACL. She is red factored and has been DNA tested as FVII clear.
