WAWELA
Lucy made friends with these gals from the WAWELA Organization.
The following information is taken from their website:
“A thousand mile journey starts with a single step”
WAWELA is a non-profit 501(c) (3) organization.
Our mission in supporting the cancer community is to offer temporary financial assistance to the un-insured as well as the under-insured patients undergoing cancer treatment.
At WAWELA we understand the financial stress many patients experience during the treatment process while adjusting to a new lifestyle of living.
We are not government funded therefore all funding is provided through community sponsorship, ongoing fundraisers, friends and family.
What does WAWELA mean?
WAWELA is not just a word. It is actually a Declaration which means "All is Well".
WAWELA is a well known expression among the African Bantu tribe.
An annual gathering would be held in the town center for all who were economically challenged, physically or spiritually ill.
Whatever the situation, the tribe would all congregate and bid each other well.
It was a time of relief, excitement; it was a "Celebration of Life".
Lucy meets a real princess!
Lucy was honored to meet the princess and I think she was a bit envious of the tiara.
I did tell Lucy that she is a princess too in the eyes of the people she meets, but I'm not so sure she believed me.
Waiting for the BBQ
There is no doubt about what is popular in Texas, and BBQ is king!
There was a long line that day waiting for BBQ and the smell was so enticing... even to Lucy!
So... who is this?
This fella was quite surprised when encountering Ms. Lucy and of course a conversation ensued.
Seems he was visiting with his grandchildren and never in his wildest dreams did he ever expect to meet a woman quite like Lucy!

What happened? We are all still here! Guess the doomsday preppers were wrong.
So climb out of your bunkers and get on with living!
But in case of emergency... Rowlett is prepared!
VIPS
"Volunteers in Police Services (VIPS) are citizens who have come together to help promote safety and cleanliness in our neighborhoods. The VIPS Program provides support and resources for agencies interested in developing or enhancing a volunteer program and for citizens who wish to volunteer their time and skills with a community law enforcement agency. The police department coordinates with VIPS to make the City safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to any emergency situation. Volunteering with the City provides opportunities for people to participate in a range of measures to make their families, their homes, and their communities safer from threats of crime, terrorism, and disasters of all kinds."
Lucy was pleased to have her photo taken with these VIPS and they made her feel like a VIP as well.
This fella, Michael Barajas, VIPS Coordinator, received the honor of 2012 Volunteer of the Year.
Congratulations Michael!
You've got mail...
Imagine the excitement when I went out to the mailbox to find a card addressed to "Fay and Lucy"!
I brought it in the house and gave it to Lucy.
She had no idea what I was handing her, so I explained how at this time of year people send holiday greetings and that it was for her!
Now as you know, Lucy does not show much emotion but I could feel her excitement as I opened the card.
And what a lovely surprise it was!
The lady we had met outside of the library in Rowlett sent it to her with best wishes for much happiness in her future adventures.
Needless to say, Lucy was delighted!
"Thank you Alma for being so kind..."
Love,
Lucy
Oh no... the day before Christmas!
Why today did the plumbing have to back up?
Lucy sat at the table as we ran water, flushed toilets and assessed the situation.
Hmmmm... not good! Need a plumber before Christmas Day.
Quick! Call Butler Plumbing!
"Say what? You can be here in 45 minutes?" WOOHOO!
Poor Lucy could not figure what all the excitement was about.
She thought perhaps Santa had arrived.
Like clock work, here come CJ and Chris to the rescue! Prompt, professional and courteous.
They tended to the problem and then of course there was some conversation about the possum portrait by the dining room table and then... you guessed it... about my friend Lucy.
And yes, they did think she was quite pretty.
So you know the next question by now: "Can I get a photo of you guys with Lucy?"
With a smile and a laugh they both agreed and Lucy was once again so happy to meet new friends!
Thanks CJ and Chris! You're the best!
Dear Santa...
My name is Lucy. I live in Texas, but then you knew that!
This year I have been so good that I should be the angel on top of the tree.
I am a mannequin and my special friend Fay has been taking me out and about to meet lots of people in the Dallas area.
I have brought joy and laughter into their lives. It is a simple thing and costs no money.
And it makes me so happy.
All I ask is that you too bring joy into other people's lives in your own special way.
Merry Christmas, Santa!
Love,
Lucy
Happy Holidays!
Lucy and I just wanted to wish all our Pbase friends a Merry Christmas and a happy holiday season!

Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!
It's snowing in Texas! Woohoo!
This is Lucy's first time to experience snow and she is loving it!
We'll have a white Christmas after all!!
Merry Christmas Lucy!
And surprise, surprise!! This photo ended up in the Dallas Morning News!
