Where were you on 9/11?

We were in France on vacation and were in shock when we heard the news. We were frightened and fearful of what might happen next. We still had a few days left of vacation.

The French were very supportive of us and our French friends opened their home to us if we could not return home as planned.

On the day to fly home, we took a shuttle to the airport. It was very early in the morning and there were all Americans in the van and we were talking about the horrific events of 9/11.
Soon a husband and wife boarded and she was wearing a hijab. The conversation ceased and there was an uncomfortable silence for the rest of the trip to the airport.

When it was our turn to exit the shuttle and go into the airport, I turned to the woman in the hijab and not knowing if she spoke English, I simply said... "Please be safe"
I had a need to connect with her. Neither she nor her husband did this horrific act.
I wanted to reach out in peace.

Before entering the airport door, I looked back at the shuttle and the woman was watching me and she put her hand up and waved.
It brought tears to my eyes.

Our flight went off on schedule and we were even put in first class seats! So... what did they know that we didn't know? The only time I have ever flown first class!

When the plane touched down at DFW, the entire plane broke into applause!

So it is today we remember those who lost their lives on this horrific day back in 2001, the families who lost loved ones,
and those who fought so bravely and risked their own lives to aid those in such desperate need.

Sadly... we live in a hate-filled world. Life is short.
Live your life to make it a better world for all!
