Anyone who knows me, knows I like quirky! If it makes me smile, then I'm on it!
I actually eased into this way of thinking through the years but it has become more evident as I have gotten older.
Perhaps we get to the point that we no longer care what anyone else thinks and act to please ourselves and if someone else happens to enjoy the same zany sense of humor... then so be it.
And for those who don't... oh well!
It was when I turned 50 that I announced to my daughters that I wanted to become eccentric in my old age, and with a smile and a wink, they told me I was on my way.
Hmmmm... wonder what they meant by that?
(I mustn't disappoint them!)
I've always been a collector of interesting things.
As these "treasures" have accumulated through the years, my favorites have a special place in the house.
My grand-daughter recently called my house the "House of Fame", whatever the heck that means!
She says it is not just a "normal" house. Yep! She's got that one right!
As you walk in the door, you are greeted by Lucy... my best friend, the mannequin.
She is a very quiet house guest and sits in the rocking chair watching over things.
We've been friends for some time now.
Actually, I have felt quite bad for her. There she sits with nothing to do with herself.
So one day I said... "Lucy... you're not having any fun in life. You need to get out girlfriend!"
That was when I started taking Lucy around the metroplex meeting new friends and seeing new places.
She hasn't been out recently due to the extreme heat, but she is looking forward to more escapades in the near future.

Over by the fireplace is Uncle Buck serving tea.
By the dining room table is a huge photo on an easel of a possum.
What? You don't have a photo of a possum in your dining room?
Lots of collectibles... rather like an antique store, I suppose.
So many memories attached to many of them!
And some are just for fun! A decorator's nightmare, for sure!
In almost every room you will find a bird of some kind.
No... not live ones. I do love birds!
And I love heads.
There is Francesca in the kitchen and the woman with the head scarf over the toilet in the downstairs bathroom.
And don't forget the lady upstairs wearing the hat.
And the skull that ends up on the back of the toilet at Halloween that bursts into raucous laughter when a noise is made
while it's eyes light up and roll around to the sudden fear of the unknowing guest.
The collection of rubber rats stands guard in the kitchen amidst a myriad of pots and pans.
Spiders hanging on webs in the window and walls exhibiting more great finds.
What can I say? There is always something to look at and something to amuse.
Minimalist decorating would make me crazy!
In the bedroom is a large wicker basket filled with clothing, scarves, bags, old camera, old glasses, jewelry, hats, shoes and a small quilt.
The grandchildren find this to be a treasure trove for their imagination as they play dress-up, make up stories, and act out fantasies together.
I love to sit in a chair and watch their impromptu presentations!
So... quirky to my way of thinking is a good thing!
It makes me happy. It makes me smile.
It is home!
