An Artist 'til the End
"I was 96 years young when I finished my last painting, which was of my dear husband's grandfather, A.C. New.
I was also 96 years young when I took my last breath.
I was always what Mama called "strong-willed" and told the Methodist minister
I wouldn't say "obey" in our vows; and I didn't!
We lost our shirt in the depression and spent years paying off our debt.
I built an art studio behind my house and started giving lessons.
I taught one little girl to paint with her toes because she didn't have arms!
Now that's someone who loves art!
My favorite possession was an album my family made for me filled with pictures of my paintings I had given them.
It was such a wonderful gift as was my life."
(Annie Diobbins Berry was portrayed by Judy Skowron, the director of the Mesquite Convention and Visitors Bureau and serves on the HMI Board.)
