"Sky High"
Description: This is an exhaust stack at a local hospital. I estimate the
stack to be about 55 meters high (180 ft). The first climbing step is about
10 meters above the ground. There are about 130 steps on the stack. I
assume that the rail in the middle is for attaching a fall-arrest device. I
would have liked to recompose this shot to create better symmetry but I was
chased away by a security guard before I had a chance to do so. I'm not
sure why he didn't like me taking photographs but he certainly didn't. The
stack is located within the bounds of a public parking lot and I was
standing in a public parking stall when I took the photo. Alas, it seems
that society has reached the point where cameras can be interpreted as
'dangerous' devices. Sad. I mention this only to explain the lack of
symmetry in the image. Nothing beats giving an 'excuse' in advance I say!
:)
Exposure: 20D with a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM telephoto on a
Manfrotto tripod at 1/15 sec, f/32, ISO200 at 70mm focal length with full
manual exposure and manual focus. And "Yes", I had to clone out some dust
spots from the sky. There's nothing like a clear blue sky at f/32 to reveal
dust on a sensor. :(
