Al Denelsbeck

JORDAN LAKE, NC - Despite the passing of Labor Day a week earlier, local residents came out in defiance of inexcusable gas prices and exciting Sunday afternoon TV programming to ply the water with fiberglass, beer, and urine. Top left, Stanley Schnorkwaddle reels in a record-breaking 225 cat using his cousin as bait. Meanwhile, seven-year-old Ignatious Gloip (top right) wallows in a red mud pit just to irritate his mother in retaliation for Brussels Sprouts. At bottom, Selma Arfnoodle and Moyra Duodenum share a guffaw over three other kayakers who chose to wear whitewater rafting helmets for an outing in a lake half as turbulent as a bathtub. Says Moyra, "I guess it's the same people who wear $200 spandex sponsors shirts for a weekend bike ride in the country".
Only seconds after these photos were taken, an Airbus A-340 made a spectacular emergency water landing directly behind those pictured, but the photographer was busy reviewing his digital photos and couldn't react in time to catch the action.
