The rationale for manipulating the color in this one is less obvious and more prosaic: the original colors produced a boring picture. Overall, this image serves as an object lesson on overcropping. I had originally cropped out the leftmost bird, because he seemed about to walk out of the picture (a compositional no-no in many circles). Then I couldn't understand why the picture just didn't work. Finally I put the bird back in, and the picture came back to life.
