RIP Polaroid, Bray-Dunes 2008

Polaroid announced today that they are discontinuing all instant film...I guess that includes Type55. I happened to be in the car at the time ,when I heard it, and I happened to have my camera and a pack of 55 with me, and then I happened to end up somewhere in the middle of the dunes, where I found this....quite poignant...K

Man...I hope someone licenses it from them :-((

This is a really beautiful shot! I do hope that someone will continue making this film so that you can go on making wonderful shots like this.

A masterpiece. Vote.

Digital was the move that got rid of it I guess. None of the previous revolution had killed the previous generations of medium. I have my grand father's camera from the 40s that takes some 120 rolls. 135 didn't kill the 120. APS didn't kill 135...
I guess that the best you have to do is to stuff the fridge with all the rolls you can find, and hope that somebody will take over.
The images that you have done with it are really remarkable. And reading a bit on it, I see that Sarah Moon uses it, and afterwards it doesn't surprise me...

We feel no second chance
There's just a primal need to release
And never let in anything...
but the skin

sad news!
what's left will soar in price, and no more to be found :(
at least there are a couple of other manufacturers, (I think), but it won't be the same!
a fitting "tribute" :)

Bitter sweet image Kal. I'd buy a new refrigerator and stock it with polaroid, and any b&w film that you fancy as it's not going to last much longer. A fantastic image to go with your feelings

It was a bittersweet announcement for me, too, Kal. I used Polaroid's black and white type 107 3000 ISO film packs in my visual workshops from their inception in 1971 until we switched over to digital imaging in 2003. This image offers an appropriate epitaph for instant film photography.

So timely. I have never used it, but it has a special quality.

The story and the photo, two jewels.
And yes, "happen" is the key word to photography ;-)
