Each at his own pace and effort to move. Perhaps a sense of competition, between the age and the transport, or simply both being oblivious. The old man was supporting himself, his body, while the younger one was being burdened by his own motorbike which ironically supposed to ease his travel. Brilliant. And yes, I fully agree with Phil that you're a true master at seeing things in your unique way, and fascinating us all the unlikely or contrasting or mind goggling scenes. Never want to miss any great shot of yours. Thanks, Kal :-)

I'm really impressed by this one too. Here, as others said, this is the contrast that is grat.

eh... so very Kal...

You and Jen are masters at this genre -- juxtaposing the old China against the new. And each one is different, too.
They are so different, yet together they must face the challenge. They must both get up that hill, and in a metaphorical sense, all of China, both new and old, must work together if growth is to be sustained and managed.

Fantastic image. Both hauling their modes of transportation up the hill. One generation with a stick and the younger with a motorcycle. Is the modern mode better? Hmmm. Maybe not. They seem to be evenly matched, but I'll be the old man can make it further. :-) Vote.

At the first look i thought it was a "collage"... an so impressive parallel in contrats!
Could be a great self-Pingpong too, with this one as a ping:http://www.pbase.com/shangheye/image/64076027 / ... and for the pong, there is too many in those last weeks to notice them all (even if the one you put under the tittle is the more beautiful!:)

This a brilliantly observed and composed shot, Kal. A real sense of movement. And it's uphill all the way.
