I saw this again, as well as a few others of your images being honoured at the Spider Awards. I feel truly privileged to have been a witness to your genius rising brilliantly. And long, indeed, may you shine. Bravo!!!

oH, WOW,!! when I get bored of shooting models (which anyhow I really enjoy of course), I come back to pbase (where I do not post for months), and I visit your galleries. You awake my instincts for life photography. The way you are able to freeze time, your eye and your technic are so natural.... by far the best galleries I have seen in Pbase ever !! Thank _You !!

Wonderful image.

Excellent composition! A child's natural curiosity is what I see here.

There is a photograph by Eduoard Boubat in which the flattened perspective fools the eye into seeing the background wall as a landscape of misty mountains. Thus the old dictum, the eye deceives but the camera lens does not lie, is shattered. But, as Phil says, photographs are illusions and they become what one wants them to be. In the hands of a real master, the photograph creates its own fiction. Bravo!!!

Magiic shot Kal I thought from the thumbnail that the little girl was standing on the beach..:>
Guest 17-Aug-2006 13:18
There is something magic in this image, like an illustration of a tale (a mix of "Alice au pays des merveilles" et "Blanche-neige" (with the apple in her hand!;)). A great composition.
But is Jennifer really right: if it's a drawing, why there is a shadow on the ground? And why the girl stand in the middle of the place instead of being near the wall?... Anyway, whatever it is, it's great!;)

The 3D effect is really fantastic! Outstanding work Kal! Roberto

So much larger that it cannot even fit in the frame! Superb composition.

Great shot, ...the left hand blur... was she about to try and touch it? Well seen and caught. KMc

Paintings and photographs are illusions. They are whatever the photographer wants them to be. This is a perfect example, Kal. You create stunning scale incongruity through your vantage point and how you abstract the mural to limit context and then brilliantly juxtapose it with an innocent child to reinterpret the meaning of this artist's art. Jen's initial comment says it all. She quickly grasped not only the subject itself, but the message at the heart of your image of it. In responding to Jen's comment today on my recent New York photo of a gothic arch over a tomb, I noted that when we photograph the art of other artists, we must respect their intentions and use them to express how we feel about what they have created. That is exactly what you have done here.

incredible! i too had to read Jen's articulate and insightful comment to understand this fully! i saw it as a beach, with the waves lapping on the shore around the girl's feet while she felt the wind from the kite forming shapes just above her. imagination is a wonderful thing.

All been said Kal, brilliant observation.
Stu15-Aug-2006 18:22
Beautiful; I'd never have guessed it was on the wall rather than 3D.

A nice shot with great composition.

It's no doubt a great composition and juxtaposition. She looked so closely at the art piece with curiosity and eagerness, perhaps trying to see and feel beyond its visual form. The art extended and reached out to its viewer, lifting her imagination up to a new level. No limits.

Great shot. Thanks to Jennifer for pointing out this a drawing on the wall. Great timing, but what I like must about the shot is the composition. A lesser photographer would have placed the girl in the center of the frame. But your placement is perfect. B&w works well, but I bet the color version is also interesting. Great job. Vote.

Wow! fantastic match of image and title. The image itself is very beautiful, very powerful. I thought "art" was 3D too!

Really well done Kal. If I did not read Jennifers comment I would not know. Excellent.

excellent

It took me ten seconds to finally realize the it is actually a drawing on the wall.. The texture gives it a three-dimension feeling and the girl looking up make it even more real.. I was just looking at one of Phil's recent New York photo:http://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/65087518
As I felt that the arch is a way to delivery the soul, in your picture, the art for me is delivering the girl's dream to an imaginal world she always had in her heart.. Beautiful work Kal~~
