He has the posture of a painter embarking on a masterpiece suffusing the menial, simple gesture with the dignity of a prayer. What is more spiritual than that?

With his hat, and the writtings above him, on the door, he looks like a (chinise) muslim... does he try to erase the reflection of the present time, or, as a guardian of faith, all what can disturb the tradition?!
Anyway, this is a master composition in his (complex) simplicity: perfectly framed and in the perfect timing. Three windows, three parts of the image. The man, first, with his knees on the door's pattern, the position of the hands, his head and eyes on the invisible point to erase... on the left, the chinese words, the Verb, in a kind of minimalism (without drawing...)... and on the right, the "people", inside with the customer, outside with the rider, as the human world on each side of the border. Well, once more, the right eye on the right place, which give, once more, an beautiful speaking image. Thanks for it, Kal!;)
(ps: Is it you, in front of the car, just behind him?... if it is, maybe he's just try to erase you reflect!?:)

Erasing a writing... yes. I agree with Adal.
This is a very evokative image, which says much more than the real scene you caught.

Window washing can often create metaphors of value and can stimulate the imagination. Two worlds collide on this pane of smeared glass -- Xian whirls past, while this man struggles to provide a clearer view for his patrons. When I was in China earlier this year, I found another window washer at work (http://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/58763480 ) -- you saw her as a dreamer, with aspirations. Does he dream that he, too, was doing something of greater value on the other side of that glass?

May we not be caught so quickly, that our written days may vanish, too, without a trace. That we can yet have a smudge of recognition, among the blur of chaotic reflections .To not pass without being seen.

Super street photography.

It's a very interesting title and picture. Does it give one a clearer vision? Or is it a mere routine or a cover-up? But it certainly made me want to have a huge "eraser" that could set things right. Erase my foolish mistakes, my sad memories, and more ambitiously, the “dirts” of our world. Wow!

... a Chinese writing, to be precise... ;-)

Your composition suggests the idea he is erasing a writing... ;-)
