Breaking the glass of the lens, and touching life.
One of the greatest photos of the new century.

;-) this image givesme so much pleasure my friend, i have been staring at it for 5 mins and am still in awe, the decisive moment captured. Cartier Bresson is alive in Shaghai and it is you.............. One of the finest images of all time. special indeed. reminds me of my visit to barca but it never got this good. awesome work. im still staring. the cat disinterested the girl and the way thealley narrows makes me thinkwhere are they heading. the cats seen it all b4. wonderful moving capture. Nearly everything has already been said on this picture.
Let’s take the concrete path of sound banality. I love the photo and I consider one of the best of yours I have seen lately.
Oddly ( or maybe not so oddly) what attracts my attention first of all is not the cat, even though it’s the cat which is at the origin of the title. I see here the cat as an accessory element, which decorate the scene, in a way, but doesn’t make it.
Actually the cat itself is a little blurred and it’s not a very appealing cat, but it has his place in the context.
What fascinates me at the first sight is the perspective of the narrow path and the cropping which keeps it voluntarily low, we cannot see where the two people are going, we cannot see the sky or the end of the alley either. This is what catches my attention and then immediately the girl, for me the centre of attention of this picture is the girl .
She’s nearly floating in the middle of the composition and it’s her look which makes the cat worthy.
Maybe it’s exactly like it had to be.
Who knows? Photos have their own language which we can only barely grasp sometimes, the photo knows, we can only try to guess.

I've been away shooting, and returned to find this image awaiting me -- your chorus of admirers has already lauded it, but I must add that this image is one of those marvelous breaths of fresh air you give us from time to time, Kal. It literally breathes for us -- the child and cat are so delicate, and the walls of life that hem them in are so hard and unforgiving. Yet the walls lead us in, and the bike propels us forward with the child, and the cat who lingers behind as her protector. The glances tell us that all is well.

This image pulls you right in. Not only do you have a great sense of depth in the photo, both the young girl and the viewer are connected through observing the cat. An outstanding composition!! Daniel.

Bewitching, of course, but the cat is her familiar.

Great shot yet again , narrow pathway, wet and rough, frozen movement, and captured moods. Every picture tells a story . Brilliant work Kal.

this is a great capture ...the subject is attractive and the composition...but you have done it with this subtile lighting, which makes it marvellous...

Kal, I think I'm ready to say that you are the most powerful and moving photographer I know. You continue to knock me out of my chair with each set of new images.

Two perches. This is magic Kal. I like the white running through this lane and those perpendicular glances.

Well framed. I like the leading pathway to nowhere. And great capture of the unknowing biker, his pillion rider looking at the cat, while it looked at you (I think). Nice ping too :-)

Great shot. Less DoF would have put the cat in better view.
