And now we have choices .... ain't Freedom grand?
(or about 20 grand, as the expression goes)

I've just seen Jen's shots -- same concept. Yours is a bit more abstract, with the fading teahouse as a backdrop. Jen confronts Starbuck's logo with colorfully decorative birds in a Chinese design. The end of one culture and the beginning of another. The Starbuckian world will be a tidy and consistently tasty one, but with few surprises.

Kal, I went to Yuyuan half month earlier, what is unbelivable is I took a shot just like yours, well at least similar content.. I will put it up later tonight and send you a link~ I guess it is probably even the same Starbucks...:))

They just began to invade Paris!;)... Great play!

This is a wonderful composition, beautiful pastel colors, including the shape of my home state.

Great stuff! I don't know how things are there, but in my neck of the woods in L.A., Sarbucks are as common as gas stations. There are serveral areas near me that have multiple stores on same block. Crazy! Look forward to the series - something I'll try to participate in. (Thanks for including me in the ping-pong!)

Excellent composition, excellent ping pong. I like the reflection too.

The Global Mandala :O Will our civilization be known for the homage to such commercial megaliths? Subliminally programming billions that make their daily mecca in search of ??? Perhaps it is a process of the inevitable, instinctual movement,as streaming salmon with singular mission? Manna alms of routine assurance and chemical invigoration that might tinkle into a begger's lap.In a few generations the chemistry of these capitalist giants will be infused into our genetic code.Surely our blood will run as neon cholesterol :P

And the long arms of Starbuck have reached so far... It's funny... We don't have it here and people are totally addicted to coffee... but it's more of the expresso type, so...
Here's another Ping for your Pongs ;)http://www.pbase.com/samchar/starbucks_contemplations

I like the contrast and the whole issue behind the photo. It makes us think indeed. Globalisation... but how come people still don't get along?? Human nature is mysterious...

I look forward to the whole series too.
This picture is nice and interesting from many points of view, as the majority of yours, it can be read through many levels.
Of course it's aesthetically enjoyable for the reflection and the contrast with the green bright logo, but it’s also an ironical urban metaphor of a certain way to flatten down cultures in an only one confused and rather superficial melting pot of fashions.
To be continued…;^))
