this may work in the transition section- as the symbolic walls of someone's life being torn away

I keep coming back to this image and have decided it's one of your top 2 or 3. Very nice.

Yes a restaurant/home at the end of a very long day Jen. The front are the pots and pans. the bags for the food hang on the wall.

I really love how you compose this picture. Small frame within bigger frame and the bigger frame is inside of your camera frame.

By the way, I think it wasn't the trush outside the window, it is some homemade snacks he was selling during the day. It is getting dark, after a hard day working, the snacks still haven't sold out. But with the warm light and meal inside the house, none of that really matters...The good way of living is to be able to enjoy a simple life like this..

Interesting capture Kal!

It is the composition that I find striking, like a linear Tai-ji, the symbol of Yin/Yang, the philosophy of mutually dependent opposites --- hot and cold, light and dark, passivity and activity. They are all here and everything is in a delicate balance. It is a deceptively simple image, but all the complex rules of feng shui are in full view!

Once again, all the good things have already been said about this image, Kal. I particularly liked Jeff's comment about the context here -- the pictures of idyllic landscapes on the wall hang in startling contrast to the grim reality of his surroundings. I notice that you chose the moment when his hand blocked his face to make this image. Was that your intent -- to make him faceless? If so, you have made quite a different image through this abstraction than it would have been if we had seen his expression. You leave it up the viewer to imagine the look on his face as he dines alone in this harsh place decorated with the trappings of his fantasies. You also choose to ignore "proper" white balance here. If you had selected "tungsten" as your white balance setting, you would have never gotten those warming tones that turn the man and walls alike into yellow gold. You would have gotten a "correct" color balance, one that would have been far less arresting to the eye.

excellent... so, you are the man from "outside" who likes to look "inside"....

This image is very strong with just the right amoun of context. The colors, as others have pointed out, are great. Excellent composition. The story is very powerful, too - here's this guy and it's somewhat obvious that he's not well-off (the missing wall and trash dump outside the window are my clues) yet he ignores the outside world that's so close and just goes about his business and eats. He even has enough pride to hang some pictures on the badly deteriorated wall. I give this a vote!

I love this scene, it's really interesting with all the context.

Nice shot

This one definetely works for me Kal, both in form and message.
The colour is so warm and beautifull, and I closely connect it's warmth to the evening warm meal that the man is having, I imagine he had a long day of hard work, and now it's a time for him to relax a bit in this warm atmoshere of a tiny restaurant.
I like the fact that you have included the wall infront, gives a context.
Winner all the way in my eyes.

Also love the fact that there are photos on the wall of other outside places, almost like wee windows
