You are a master of black and white. All experimentation is good. Lack of something sharp to rest my eyes upon gives me a feeling of dissonance and angst. My personal preference for this photo would be to knock it into b/w and use it as a supportive background for a vivid subject.http://www.pbase.com/shangheye/image/53510456

Really love this shot.

I like it very much too! (almost like a painting!)

I, for one, like this. Light, movement, composition, blur, all that gives an emotion when I look at this image.

I like this image a lot ... the blurred people on the left, the bike and window on the right. These seem to present two seperate visual stories, compelling the viewer to try and tie them together ...
really well done

I absolutely love how the figures are walking off in the photo in sort of a high contrast blurr. The red is very nice as well. Very interesting and challenging image, to the view. Well done

Ray makes an excellent point, Kal. Your image began with your own intentions, but once your viewers see it, they will either bring their own imaginations to bear on it or not. You have shown him what failing vision will look like. Expressive images can say different things to different people. The image itself is a catalyst to thought. What happens in the viewer's mind is the end product, not the image itself. When I looked at it, I immediately knew what you were trying to say -- of course, the word "ghostly" helped by adding context. As did the word "concessions" which refers to Shanghai's colonial history.

I believe that a photograph, like all great art, assumes a life of its own once it becomes public. It no longer obeys its creator's intentions but becomes the property of the viewer's imagination. This picture makes me think of old people whose failing vision can only see the world in golden monochrome, while the world passes by, obscured by a hazy veil. The bicycle seems like a metaphor for the transport into the unknown left by the two figures now together walking into that long good night.

You see Kal, you may be the parent of this image but your child-creation has a mind of its own.

A purely experimental image Jeroen, a phase I am going through ;-) so thanks for your honesty. The bike in my opinion is too modern, and so it detracts. Adam...why I am I not surprised you like this ;-)

I like this! I like the color and blur of the people walking. Only "complaint" is that the bike just looks out of focus and draws my attention away from the people. Here's an idea for an alternative image...what about cropping the right half of the image out all together? The walkers would still *not* be centered (which is good) and the image will have fewer distractions, at least in my opinion. Just an idea as the image is strong as is.

I think this is your first picture that doesn't work for me. That's quite an achievement.

I like this one! Particularly like how the blur has stylised the two walking characters into some scarey tim burton esque figures! I like blury photos, i see in focus ones all the time, I like letting my brain do some work
