Yes a bit soft and I did not post it originally for that reason (Manual focus in the dark and being short sighted do not go together ;-) ). Tested it with my wife, who thought the content worked. I am not happy with the execution, so both yours and Phils comments, Ana, confirm my original feelings.
Humm, it doesn't always matters, but here I think that something should be more in focus. If the girl was more sharp this image would be so much stronger, though I imagine that it wouldn't be an easy photo to take...
I don't feel the softness adds much meaning to this image -- I would rather have seen more detail. However the content itself seems valid -- a child appears to be using a chamber pot, while an adult turns the other way, leaving her to her thoughts. The abstraction should come in the context -- the adult and the surroundings should be soft or blurred, but the child should be as sharp as a tack so we could relate to her in her moment of incongruous "privacy."
