Thanks Phil. Two images in which you have commented that concealement of part of the face represents incongruity and in this case also abstraction. It calls in to mind your image of the dancer with the concealed face athttp://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/20736349. Human beings hide their faces when they have something to hide, when they are shy, when they are embarassed, when they are afraid. Countless reasons. Concealement is abstraction and drives the human imagination. Like in Jen's imagehttp://www.pbase.com/angeleyes_zyl/image/42017844.
It is not as fresh as the preceding image in concept but it is expressive. The lack of nose and mouth is both incongruous and abstract. The human value expressed must be a form of self discovery.
I don't know about this image. It is unusual, and the hand creates an incongruity, one because the child has no mouth and the second is that is an unusual pose for a child of that age. My wife loves it, but is it expressive?
