Treasures
This old jar of coal and slag was something that I carted home on one of my trips to Pennsylvania to see my husband's realatives. We hiked through the woods to an old abandoned mining site. Because my father-in-law was a coal miner these have special significance to my family and me.

Old Catcher's Mitt
This is an old mitt that I remember hanging around my Grandpa's house. I don't know who it belonged to and I am sure it wasn't Grandpa's. How I ended up with it I am not sure. Probably no one else would take it.

Grandma's Speaker
As long as I can remember, Grandma had this speaker beside her every night while she watched television. She was hard of hearing by the age of probably thirty-five as were all of her ten brothers and sisters. It was lost in someones attic for years and just resurfaced at Christmas time. What joy it brought. Incredible!

Grandma's Voice
Grandma became blind in about 1971 and as a hobby she exercised her mind by recalling all the birth dates of relatives near and distant. She also spent a great deal of time reciting old poems that she had learned as a child. As much as I was a tired young mom and not perticularly interested in hearing them one more time, my husband insisted that we make a audio tape of my grandma. Today, I am so glad he did. Of course in the background I can be heard yelling at my youngest and Grandma as they are both desperate for my attention.

Little Madi's Shoes
Madi was crushed when her mom said these shoes had to go. They were old, holey, and smelly she said and they needed to go in the trash. This would have been my exact response as a mom, but then as a grandma things change. I rescued them for Madi and am using them as a decoration in the guest room which is fixed up as a cozy retreat. Of course "Mom" can't believe I would subject my company to such a thing.

Play Ball
I am not sure where this ball came from. Both my oldest daughter and my son may be the proud owner, but some how this very well used and loved baseball captured my imagination. "If you build it, they will come." comes to mind.

Pack Rat
I am such a pack rat. I could probably make it onto the new t.v. show "The Hoarders". The junk that I find amusing!! My Grandaughters photo is NOT among the items that I call junk.

Roots
Just a photo of Grandma's speaker along with a family photo of when she was a child. The last three children had not been born yet. Grandma is the second little blond girl on the left. Her hair was jet black as an adult.

Cowboy Joe
Here are some of the things Art and I collected to make a small vignette over the fireplace in the family room. There are assorted old bones and other treasures. The cowboy boots are a pair probably originating in Mexico where it was the fashion to cut the heel in such a way as to make their feet look small. I am just surprised that a cowboy would want small feet.

One Man's Junk
Dad gave this to me a few years back. I am sure he realized what a treasure it would be to me. I used to get to use a similar one when I was taking Photography back in the 1980's. It may not have been this old, but at the very least it was in better condition amazingly since it was used by all the students.
