8/2/08 - My two 15-yr-old nieces (who were visiting from OR) and I (62-yr-old) visited this unbelievable work of art last week. We were amazed at the craftsmanship and beauty of this bldg. There's not a nail or a screw in the whole place, since it was built of marble, sandstone & limestone, exactly as it would have been built centuries ago. Both I (old lady) and my nieces (teenagers) thoroughly enjoyed taking photos around the outside, and were content to just use our eyes inside, where we had a guide to tell us about the large prayer room, which is central to the building and the primary place used for their prayers. It was a very worthwhile stop on our itinerary, and I encourage anyone in the area for sightseeing to make their way to this place of worship for one sect of Hindus. Note: women need slacks & long sleeves (or saris or long sleeved dresses), but if you don't dress as they would wish, they will happily provide you with a wrap you may use to cover your arms and/or bare legs. You will be asked to remove your shoes before touring, so you may wish to wear (or take) socks, although barefoot is the norm.
