For this trip, we took a a high-speed catamaran from Skagway, to a place where we boarded a 31' canoe that took us around several large icebergs, close to the base of Davidson Glacier. The intense blue color is the result of highly compressed ice crystals that absorb all colors of the spectrum except for blue, which is reflected.
