87th

87th Infantry Division:
The Golden Acorn Division.

The 87th Division was activated as a component of the Army
of the United States on December 15th, 1942, with Headquarters
at Camp McCain, Mississippi. After one change of station and
participation in the 1943-1944 Tennessee maneuvers, the Division
embarked for the European theater in October of 1944

The shoulder patch worn by the 87th Division is based on a WW I
design that was approved by the AEF on November 9th, 1918.
The acorn is a traditional symbol of strength.
