83rd

83rd Infantry Division:
The Thunderbolt Division.

The 83rd Division was activated as a component in the Army
of the United States on August 15th, 1942, with Headquarters
at Camp Atterbury, Indiana. Following one change of station
and participation in the Tennessee maneuvers, the Division
embarked for the European Theater in April of 1944

The shoulder patch worn by the 83rd Division is based on a
WW I design approved by the AEF on December 26th, 1918.
The design in the center of the patch forms a series of
monogram letters that read "OHIO" to suggest the state
from which the majority of the Division's WW I strength was drawn.

Worn from:
26 December 1918 - 31 December 1965.

Re-designated: Eighty-third Army Reserve Command.
Worn from:
21 August 1974 - Current.

Campaigns:
World War I,

World War II
(Normandy, Northern France,
Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, Central Europe).
