A tenacious clump of Red Valerian (Centranthus ruber) helps frame the Royal Tweed and Royal Border Bridges at Berwick-upon-Tweed on 8 August 2021. The four-arch Royal Tweed Bridge is constructed from reinforced concrete and was opened in 1928. The more famous Royal Border Bridge was built to carry the York, Newcastle and Berwick Railway over the river and opened in 1850, it still forms part of the East Coast Main Line between London King's Cross and Edinburgh Waverley stations.
