Metairie Cemetery has some of the most beautiful artwork I have ever seen in a place of the non-living.
The descendants of this man and woman must have respected them greatly. The gentleman has a chisel and a stone denoting that he was a sculptor. The lady is arranging flowers denoting that she was a florist and owner of the Quality Flower Shop just off Canal Street near the cemeteries.
Teodoro Bottinelli was born in Italy in 1886 and came to New Orleans as an immigrant which leads me to believe he probably is responsible for much of the beautiful artwork that exists in Metairie Cemetery. He worked on the Stone Mountain carving in Georgia.
Between the two of them they must have contributed greatly to the people of New Orleans during their times of grief over the loss of a loved one.
