The Spanish Moss is Once Again Growing on our Trees

New Orleans City Park

After Hurricane Katrina's winds subsided one thing was very evident--the trees that were left standing were naked of their leaves and the Spanish moss that grows so prolifically in southeast Louisiana. Some people say it all rode on the winds some four hours away to Jackson, Mississippi, where the residents awoke to find moss on their lawns and cars and houses.
After almost two years of trees, mostly our beautiful live oaks, denuded of moss we see that it has made a marvelous comeback and is growing stronger than ever.
Nature heals itself.

Scrolling slowly through this gallery reminds me of the terrific job & the strength of mind you had through it all Coleen...where others would a sobbed into their hands you kept on in a forward direction full of optimism & now the moss is showing that you were right...it all comes back in the end, if left lone !!

Nice to see. Looks like it spread to the crepe myrtles too.
Nice green spring grasses beneath that massive oak. Nice Compo Coleen.

Nature shows its fury and then rebuilds. It is certainly a dangerous and confusing cycle. The return of the familiar vegetation certainly has to be a welcome sight. A great mood shot, Coleen.
