The Tomb of Dominique You

St. Louis Cemetery No. 2 in New Orleans

This cemetery is full of history. It dates back to burials beginning in 1828.
This tomb is of the half-brother of Jean Lafitte. Dominique You was an artillery gunner for Napoleon and finally settled and lived out his life in New Orleans. His place as a patriot and pirate caused people to write the inscription of an honored fighting man on his tomb.
The inscription is written in French and interpreted into English reads:

"In a hundred combats showed his valor
This new Bayard without reproach or fear
Could have witnessed the ending of the
World without trembling."
Died 15 November 1830.

Great tribute to a Louisiana hero.
