Meet the Swan Family

Lafreniere Park

Barely a day old and already making their way in the world. I have been anxiously awaiting this hatching.
Following Hurricane Katrina there were only two male swans left in Lafreniere Park. The Park acquired two female swans from Baton Rouge on February 10. This pair took a liking to one another. The other pair is still lollygagging in the lagoon.

Beautiful! Wonderful! Thank you for the patience and tenacity to get these shots. Swannie is darling. She comes to my call, gliding over from wherever she is when I give my call. (She's been hearing it for at least 3 years.) I think Swannie is 4 years old this spring. She hates other ducks who come to eat when she does. Also, she goes after babies. I think she killed 8 babies of a newly hatched group. Must get out to Lafreniere tomorrow to see the family. Thank you, Happy Mother's Day, E.
