Grotto

The Holy Cross Brothers had a beautiful garden surrounding this grotto before Katrina.
I did not have the heart to photograph the Br. Melchior Memorial gymnasium or the swimming pool or the newly refurbished (before Katrina) baseball field and stadium.

Jacques,
You must surely be related to the Jacques Couret who graduated from HC in the 1960s. He and I (and a few others) worked during the summers for Bro. Edward Lee in the Alumni Office. Please have Jacques drop me an e-mail.

Now this is schocking... the dead trees all around Mary used to be so thick tand lush around her that it was like a real grotto. Hard to see it with so much sunlight and openness.

This is not the original grotto on campus. There was one prior that looked a lot like the one at Notre Dame, I was told by Br. Fischer Iwasko. The one in this picture I believe was built some time in the 1960s, likely when the Brothers' Residence was built in 68.
