Sunset Amongst the Ruins

West End-New Orleans

This is a view shot through a wall that led to a restaurant over Lake Pontchartrain. I am standing on the New Orleans side of the Lake looking across to Metairie. Hurricane Katrina wiped clean the building that was on the pilings, once a popular seafood family restaurant.
Another sunset photo is at http://www.pbase.com/image/50838345.
Then I turned around and took a photo of the moon rising over the devastated boathouses at http://www.pbase.com/image/50838853.

it is a beautiful scene, despite the devastation

Beautiful sunset shots. Sunsets have a way of masking the ugliness and giving a sense of hope for a new day. Nicely captured.

sad but such a beautiful picture

Yes, the framing is sad but effective. The whole tradegy is upsetting. This is a lovely sunset photo. Sad that it represents the damage done by Katrina. I hope the rebuilding is going along okay. I am always cynical about anything handled by gov't agencies but this is too important to mess up.

Everyone likes the framing. Me too. The destruction doesn't seem to bother the birds one bit. All the more room for them.

Nice shot

good shot, like the way you framed it. Of all the things that I have seen, driving up a few weeks ago and seeing all of the restaurants gone, was one of the most shocking.

Oh wow. I actually think I may have eaten there 10 years ago. This is such a powerful shot.
