Watching the Hurricane Rita

Louisiana

I took this in one of the bedrooms shortly before dark of the approaching Hurricane Rita's rain. We are on high ground on the Great River Road.
Little did I know it would get much worse before it gets better. It is now 4:45 a.m. and we have been hammered with winds and rain since midnight with more to come as the hurricane is not moving. I and my two cats are keeping the watch while the rest of the house sleeps----would that I had such a temperament.

A descriptive spot for those who are far away ...

The wind and driving rain were scary. You just didn't know when the tornado sirens would go off again. It was a long night.

It does seem it will never let up. This photo really shows the helplessness of having to just watch and wait.

it's a sad and ominous but well-taken foto, Colleen.

Watching is awfull especially when you are in the hands of nature and there is nothing anybody can do. We are all wishing you well, keep safe.

I'm sure that was a sleepless night. Kept getting up here to check the Weather Channel to see what was going on down there. Sorry to hear about the second round of flooding.

Very nice capture Coleen.
I've read gradual weakening is expected now that Rita has made landfall, so I hope it will be better right now. All the best for you and your family.

You certainly have experienced bad weather lately, Coleen. Great photo though.

I could not sleep either. I remember well the four storms we had last year. You start getting shell shocked after a while. Good luck.

Quite a night, wasn't it. The winds are still frightening. Go Home ahs been hiding under my pillow all night.

it looks ominous

I don't know how the rest of the house could sleep through this either,
I'd be watching too, just like I do when we have bushfires (wildfires).
So sorry you have to experience it all again Coleen... stay safe!

Easy to see why sleep is difficult and hard to imagine more of this. I hope you are safe and secure where you are.

Hope you are on high ground. National news at 5 AM EDT has levees overflowed
and more water pouring back in. Thanks for posting Coleen, but try to get some rest too.
A lot of us are thinking and praying for you & your family. Bob
