Early Birds

Louisiana_U.S.A.

It's a bit early in the year for new baby ducks. These were born on Sunday--I saw them with their egg shells. We still have a freeze predicted. However, I am sure they will be warm under their mother's wings. There are five altogether, but the other two are under their mother's left wing.
Took me about an hour to get this close. I crept up about a step every five minutes. And, as usual, when I am on one of my hunts, I was dressed in a suit and high heels.
I was torn between this one and the babies alone.

Ah, that's the kind of duck that wags its tail. Those little ducklings are cute

They sure are cute at that age but grow up to have one ugly face. Both are wonderful photos.

What a lovely image, Coleen. You have captured a lot of detail in the feathers of the mother and the down of the ducklings.

Theres another lovely image - of you in your hunting gear!

Nice. I think a picture of you on high heels taking this would be great to see !

What a sweet family. Well worth muddy shoes (at least to me). I'm very impressed by your efforts.

Lovely chicks, kind of opposite of the ugly duckling story !

Voting too. Great capture. So did the heels sink into the mud? LOL.

Excellent

Dennis, these babies will have the same Muscovy look as their mother. Usually, what is yellow on the baby turns white and the rest will be Muscovy. I can see around their eyes that they will have the traditional Muscovy look.

Coleen, this is an absolutely wonderful image! This, I believe, is the better of the two; it looks like a family portrait (except Mr. Muscovy isn't there). I think this (the Muscovy) is a really fun (read funny looking) duck. It's strange that her ducklings are yellow and brown and show no sign of the facial baboon's ass thingie that the adults have. Nice work. Next photo: your heels. :-)

aaaahhhhhhhh, I love it! Frame this one Coleen!
I'm voting.

Coleen, you have taken some wonderful images of birds, but I think this is one of your better. The focus, composition, and color are all perfect. Very well done... how do you find these wonderful birds everyday?

Sweet photo of a mom and her babies. The flowers and trees around us are being fooled by a false spring, I didn't think about the wildlife!
I'm picturing you in your high heels and suit!

Was it worth it....absolutely. I can't believe you could get this close and this quality photo. We are so glad for your patience.....

Terrific! And in heels yet! It was well worth your patient strategy. Just beautifully done.
