The Southern Yacht Club, on right, replaces the one that burned in Katrina when the wave action broke gas pipes. It was the first of many fires occurring during Katrina and the first big news I heard on the radio that night. The Lighthouse, on left, is being rebuilt and should look exactly like the one that was knocked over by Katrina, then further damaged by the next hurricane that came along soon after. It was a landmark in New Orleans and on the Register of Historical Places. It is now on cement pilings and cement "stilts" because of the new code of building near water.
