Wheelwright in Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg, VA

Ride any traditional form of transportation in the Historic Area, and you'll be atop wheels fashioned by Colonial Williamsburg wheelwrights. As in colonial times, wheels are needed for riding chairs, carriages, carts, and wheelbarrows. At the Wheelwright, located at the Governor's Palace, you can see skilled tradesmen joining the hub, spokes, and rim into a perfectly round shape, then compressing the wheel tightly and putting an iron tire around its circumference for strength and durability.
