Hi Matt,
That's interesting, that your grandfather was the general contractor for the tower. I've since wondered what the actual purpose of the watchtower was, or exactly what they were on the watch for. It's an amazing building. Was it always built on the edge of the canyon, or has erosion set in since?
The tower reminds me of something from Lord Of The Rings.

Mr. Carter my grandfather was the general contractor that built Desert View in 1929-32 for the Santa Fe railroad as well as other buildings in the resort area. Excellent pictures!!!!

Beautiful pictures! I was trying to find some aerial pics to send my sister who is visiting the park for her first time .... and it brought me back to my first visit. There is nothing that can describe the first time one sees the canyon! Your pictures are second to that - thanks for sharing with the world! - ANNE IN CT

Incredible pictures!! ...and just what I was looking for!! Thank You Kenny!
I've been using the new satellite views available fromhttp://maps.google.com/ and after
finding my house and a few other misc things I wanted to see something really amazing and
hopefully obvious from space. So I thought "How about the Grand Canyon?" Did a little bit
of reading and found out it's north of flagstaff. So I searched for Flagstaff, AZ and
then worked my way north until I found it. Truly spectacular what we can do these days!
Having gazed down from space I wanted to compare it with more terrestrial views and that's
what led me to you. I Googled: [Grand Canyon+Aerial Pics] and yours was the 2nd link...

Kenny-I know you've gotten good with that digital camera but THAT GOOD? Those are surely professional and you're trying to pass them off as yours! Plagerism? or some other kind of theft? They really are wonderful---my favorite is the praire dog! What were you doing in Arizona and is there really less humidity there than here on the Grand Strand of SC?
