How exhilarating to be at close to 10,000 feet and be able to see the clouds floating below you with glimpses of the ocean below that! The road you see is the one going the last 500 feet to the observatory. I had hiked up one of the nearby trails to get as high as I could. You can vaguely see between the 2 roads, the first part of one of the trails leading down into the crater. I did not feel the elevation at this time, but later going only a part of the way down into the crater and coming back on the very gradual ascent, I experienced dizziness and shortness of breath.
