Hey thanks Scott! And I have to agree with EVERYTHING CJ said about self portraits. I should just copy and paste his comment here!

But I'd further add that for me it's become a game almost, role-playing. I have really gotten into playing a role in a SP that I may not even consider in real life. To dress up funny or create a new look for the sake of the portrait. It has been a blast! I hope others will all join in, as it can be rather addicting!!

This is great, as is the color one!

Wonderful self portrait! I love your blue eye in the color version, but I must say the b/w here is great.

Scott, I've loved your B&W work since I saw you on the dpreview threads and then in the challenges. This one certainly keeps up with your standards! Lovely high key, and I love the composition. The look in your eye is so intense. Wonderful job. -- angela :)

This image caught my eye this morning. Welcome to the club Scott. I can't speak for others, but for myself, self-images have become a great way to try out new lighting, compositions or other techiques before subjecting them to anybody else. In one sense, it's perhaps nice to have some series of recorded images of ourselves over the years. But even more than a vanity collection, I've come to find that as image makers, whatever photographs we make of ourselves seems to be a very helpful experience when it later comes to photographing others. And when we're trying to learn something, it does indeed help to have a model who's totally empathetic and patient to our plight. And who else would have such patience for our persistent silliness efforts or our long drawn out experiments or even be available when inspiration hits us when we're in the middle of nowhere or in the middle of the night? Sometimes the most practical solution is just to
turn the camera on ourselves and carry on with our work. In any event, good image. Welcome to the club.
