Irony

Home, laptop

iro-ny (n): an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected

Last week's PBase outage and the subsequent read-only mode seems to have driven many PBasers over to SmugMug. Since many of my favorite photographers have moved over there, I try to keep up with their photos at their new home. Today, I find that SmugMug is having "temporary difficulties" and is in read-only mode. Going back through the past status messages, I found the following issues just since September:

  • 09/01/09 Site Down

  • 09/01/09 Emergency Network Maintenance

  • 09/04/09 Site Down

  • 09/07/09 Uploading Issue

  • 09/08/09 Uploading and Speed Issues

  • 09/19/09 SmugMug Offline

  • 09/30/09 Site Offline

The irony of all this amuses me.

Well... if you have an update after a few minutes and get updated every 15 minutes ... it is much better than every 15 DAYS!

We must have tipped the boat... I guess there is a benefit to not checking in this weekend.

he said having to resort to camera phone uploads because he is on holiday and cant manage without pbase for a few days lol . . .

i only posted three pics on sm. Cant get on with it. I like the sense of community on pbase. When my 14 day free sm trial runs out thats it. When you think about it its a bit sad if we cant manage in our lives without pbase for a few days . . . .

LOL....since Pbase has been up & running it's zooming along for me. I too joined SM, but there is not the community feel as there is here & that is why here will always come first with me & once it was back up I couldn't wait to get back I would rather be a Pboomer than a Smuggins any day :))

I'm glad you posted this Scott.
The grass is always greener on the other side, isn't it?

Talk about being between a rock and a hard place!! I'm glad I've stuck with PBase and not had two lots of upset!

Wow :)))
Something like 100% uptime service does not exist in the world, this is 100% sure.
And I agree with Phillip :)
Scott Browne04-Oct-2009 22:09
Quite right, Phillip. I'm all for better communication from the PBase Powers-That-Be. It goes a long way towards calming frustrations.
Cindi Smith04-Oct-2009 22:09
Yep, at least they are down at separate times so I have a backup if I need it for my photography upload addiction. I think I need rehab!

Heehee - yeah - on the one hand SM seem better at keeping peeps informed, but it's just not 'home' like PBase is :o)
