This gallery consits of a small number of the shots I took of the barges which ply the river both day and night. They are a magnificant sight. They push three flat barges in a row and typically 5 or 6 rows. We estimated the length of each flat barge at about 60 feet and the pusher barge (you can't really call it a "tug" boat) appeared to be about 80 to 100 feet long. You can imagine the difficulty of navigating a turn in such a rig, but they do it even in the dark with very powerful search lights.
