This was the surprise show of the year so far and will be very hard to top! One of the most amazing facts was that this band has been broken up for 14 years. The band is called Stink and the show was at The Roxy (one of my FAVORITE venues in Boston - even though I rarely get to see bands play there).
The lyrist was speaking more then singing but his voice was AMAZING! Deep, raw, and truely unique. Some times the band would randomly kick it up and burst into these melodies of sonic furry but mostly it was just artisty and chill. When they first came on I thought they were good but still had hesitations. As the show went on the set got better with each song and by the fourth song I was sold. Most of the band members just stood there, which is something that can really kill a show, but the sounds they were producing we so vivid that it made YOU move for them. Looking down at the crowd from the balchony, everyone was just getting into the atmosphere of it all in there own way. This was actually impressive to me because even at The Plea for Peace Tour, the crowd still had that "too coold to cut loose" vibe going on. I wonder how many were like me, hearing Slint for the first time that very night and not just hearing it but hearing it live...
I owe Krystal for this experience and will have to keep my radar up for the right show to offer back this experience! This was my only chance to see them and hearing them live for the first time, only made it more memorable! The same was true for Cursive (even though they are still around and I have atleast 20 more chances to see them live). I never heard of them, but everyone told me to go and the reviews made me cureous. So I went. Alone in the city and will never forget hearing them, LIVE no less, for the first time ever and being floored!! I kept thinking of bands like, "God Speed You Black Emporer", and imagining that they had to have been influenced by this band, back in the earlier pre-ninties hay days.
This show was equally of the same calibuir. What a night. Thanks again fire fly...
