A grey day today, on so many levels. Not the least of which was the weather, with horribly low light levels and generally extremely dull. The rain and wind have subsided a bit, sufficient gaps between showers allowing a walk along the sea wall. The storms having brought in a lot of debris, some of which even making it over the top wall. The concrete apron, on the other side of this low wall, is actually the top of the main wall which drops about 10 feet down to the beach itself, at a 45 degree angle.
I decided to take a shot representative of an out of season resort, this area would be packed with tourists in the summer. The light was so bad I knew that the result would be very flat, so I overexposed by a stop (deliberately!). This allowed me to sandwich the image with itself, using a duplicate layer and the 'multiply' blend mode, which darkens the image to the correct density but with more contrast than a single ('correctly exposed') original. I finished by desaturating, dodging and burning to give the image some more punch.
